One Agency for the Rinjani-Lombok UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve: what it is for, who it answers to, and how it works.
Our mandate
The Rinjani‑Lombok MIDAS Management Agency is a body of the Government of Nusa Tenggara Barat. It exists so that two UNESCO designations covering one landscape are managed as one: one plan, one set of partnerships, and one point of contact for communities, researchers, investors and visitors.
The Governor oversees the Agency, and BAPPEDA NTB, the provincial development planning agency, coordinates it within the provincial government. A General Manager leads the Agency, supported by a Board of Managers and a Secretariat.
Working Groups and the Pentahelix
The Agency works through six Working Groups, each led by a provincial government agency (OPD). Each group brings together the five parts of the Pentahelix (government, academia, business, communities and media) around one area of work, so that conservation, research, education and local enterprise reinforce one another.
